This is a classic trick that many pup parents love to have their dog perform to ask for their dinner. It also can prepare your dog to learn to dance, if that's something you're considering!
- Step One: Have your pup stand still, and hold a treat in front of your dog's nose. Then, move the treat towards the side of your pup's head until they have to turn to reach the treat.
-
Step Two: Continue moving the treat in a full circle, having the pup follow you the entire time. The second they complete the circle, give them a treat and then mark the behavior with your clicker.
-
Step Three: Once they've mastered this, have them perform it several times without the treat as a reward.
-
Step Four: When your pup no longer needs the treat to perform, start adding the phrase "spin" to the action until they know to associate the words with the movement.
-
Step Five: After you've completed this, you can start having your pup spin in the opposite direction as a fun bonus!
